Dombrowski: 'It's an extreme honor to join Red Sox'

The Red Sox introduced Dave Dombrowski as the newest member of the organization's front office on Wednesday afternoon, as the longtime general manager joined the club as president of baseball operations.

"It's an extreme honor to join the Red Sox organization, one of the most prestigious organizations in baseball and in professional sports," Dombrowski said. "When you start looking at opportunities that come around, there aren't many opportunities like this that exist."

Eli Manning on highest-paid report: 'It's never come out of my mouth'

A clearly annoyed New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning on Wednesday disputed an NFL Network report that he's seeking to become the highest-paid player in the NFL. "The reports are all wrong," Manning said before Giants practice. "That's never been said, it's never come out of my mouth, I've never said it to my agent, I don't know where people are getting their information."

Manning said he heard about the report Tuesday when his father, Archie

Manning, called him and was upset. Eli said he laughed and then called the Giants' media relations department to see what was going on.

Manning is entering the final year of his contract and has yet to reach an extension, though other quarterbacks in similar situations have done so this offseason. San Diego's Philip Rivers, Pittsburgh's Ben Roethlisberger, Carolina's Cam Newton and Seattle's Russell Wilson all have signed contract extensions this offseason. The Giants and Manning have had some discussions, but each side has made it clear it's OK with waiting until after the season if need be.

Battle of the Backcourts: Which Guard Combos Will Rule the NBA in 2015-16?

If the 2014-15 season was any indication, great guard play should help define the upcoming NBA campaign. Both the statistical leaderboards and playoff field were littered with the fingerprints of backcourt elites. The conference semifinals alone featured nine All-Star guards, and 17 of the league's top 30 scorers manned one of the two backcourt posts. With so much talent congested between these two positions, it begs the question of which perimeter tandem reigns supreme.

That's what we sought to answer here, though our approach is a little different. Rather than a straight ranking of the league's premier guard combos, we have placed the top 16 (based on past production and future potential) into a hypothetical single-elimination tournament to crown the winner.

Top Prospect at Every Position for the 2016 NBA Draft Class

The projected 2016 NBA draft field should offer at least one standout prospect at each position. We identified the top point guard, shooting guard, small forward, power forward and center expected to declare after the 2015-16 season.

These are the positions we project them to mostly play in the pros. Ben Simmons will likely play the 4 at LSU, but in the NBA, he's more likely to play the 3—so we classified him as a small forward. Once again, expect to see another big group of one-and-done freshmen next season. Only one of the following prospects is a returning college player.

3 ways Ohio State could become an all-time great team

The best Urban Meyer can do is stash his team away and make sure that there is no discussion about dynasties, repeats or where the Buckeyes might rank historically as they deal with the grind of two-a-day practices."There's really zero conversation about that," Meyer said. "To worry about something other [than getting better every day], that's not fair and it doesn't exist.

"It probably exists when they are out and about. The good thing is they're locked down at the hotel with us, and so up until we play the first game, we're locked down."

Full Predictions for MLB's Next 5 Hall of Fame Induction Classes

We won't know until the HOF voters, in their infinite wisdom, cast their ballots. But we can make educated guesses based on eligibility, career accomplishments, past selections/rejections and a dash of old-fashioned gut feeling.

One thing to keep in mind: We're assuming otherwise-worthy candidates spurned thus far because of damning steroid allegations—Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens—won't punch tickets to Cooperstown in the next half-decade. The same goes for Pete Rose, baseball's all-time hits leader and a celebrated honoree at the 2015 All-Star Game in Cincinnati who remains haunted by his gambling past.

So the following predictions will exclude some notable names. Which, honestly, is partly what makes the Hall such an intriguing topic for debate.

10 Things to Watch for (Already) in the 2015-16 NBA Season

Will the Warriors defend their title?
The Golden State Warriors got out to a streaking start last season and never looked back. After winning the NBA championship, there will be a glaring target on their backs from teams around the league. Add in the Western Conference squads ramping up their rosters (especially the addition of LaMarcus Aldridge to the San Antonio Spurs) and the pressure will be on the Warriors to defend their title.

Who will be the bust/sleeper of the 2015 NBA Draft?
Karl-Anthony Towns, D’Angelo Russell and Jahlil Okafor dominated the discussions leading up to this year’s NBA Draft. Will one of them reign as Rookie of the Year, or will someone else from the class take the award? Keep an eye on Emmanuel Mudiay, who shined at Summer League. On the flipside, each year there are lottery picks that don’t pan out. Which team(s) drafted high but will have received a low return by the end of the season?

How will the season play out in Sacramento?
The situation was rocky before the season ended and got more tumultuous this summer with escalating tension between George Karl and DeMarcus Cousins. How that relationship plays out will be a closely-watched storyline all season. The addition of Rajon Rondo adds another personality to the mix, as the veteran point guard will be playing for another contract next season. Will the Kings thrive or struggle in the face of all their issues? Who will finish out the season on the team? The questions are endless in Sacramento.
